LIMA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Peru's economy grew 3.77 percent during the first eight months of this year, the National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI) said Monday.

In addition, the INEI said the economy also saw a growth of 3.35 percent during the 12-month period from Sept. 2017 to Aug. 2018.

In August 2018 alone, the country's economy registered a growth of 2.25 percent, INEI said.

The positive outcome was the result of an increased external demand for non-traditional export items, which hit 15.68 percent, according to INEI.

In terms of domestic demand, INEI said it saw evidence of recovery as a result of higher retail sales, which hit 3.55 percent and higher consumer credit which increased 9.93 percent.

The INEI explained that the economic increase in August was based on the positive results of the agriculture and manufacturing sectors as well as services provided to companies.

Overall, the agriculture sector grew 7.51 percent, while the mining and hydrocarbon sectors fell 3.9 percent.

Manufacturing sector rose 1.53 percent, spurred by the positive outcome of the non-primary subsector with 2.43 percent. However, there was a decrease of 1.42 percent in the primary manufacturing subsector.

The commercial sector increased 2.52 percent in August, thanks to growth in wholesales of 3.51 percent and retail sales of 3.55 percent.
