ACCRA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's economic growth rate (including oil production) in the second quarter of this year reached 5.4 percent, relative to the 11.1 percent revised growth rate recorded during the same period last year, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) announced here on Wednesday.

The government statistician explained that although the 5.4 percent growth rate was quite low, this was upon a very high base from last year.

While industry led the growth with 11.1 percent, the agriculture sector came second with 4.8 percent. The services sector grew by a paltry 0.5 percent.

The GSS also announced a 5.6 percent rise in industry inflation during the month of September, relative to the seven percent inflation rate for the industry sector recorded in August.

During the month of September, consumer inflation slid 0.1 percentage point to 9.8 percent relative to the 9.9 percent inflation rate recorded in the prices of consumer goods in August. Enditem
