BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- After winning the women's beach volleyball bronze medal at the Youth Olympics on Wednesday, the Norwegian pair of Emilie Olimstad and Frida Bernsten said there is more to Norwegian sport than skiing.

In the bronze medal match, Olimstad and Bernsten edged past US pair Lindsey Sparks and Devon Newberry 2-1 (18-21, 21-13, 15-9).

"We're coming from such a little country, where beach volleyball is not such a famous sport, so to get the bronze here is amazing," said Olimstad.

"We were not just born with skis under our feet. We can do more than that."

Her partner Bernsten, who celebrated her 17th birthday on Tuesday, added that the level of expectation for success in summer sports is quite low.

"There it's all about winter sports, so it's fun to show Norwegian people that it's possible to do a great job in summer Olympics as well," she added.

In the women's final, the Russian pair Maria Voronina and Mariia Bocharova overcame Italy's Nicol Bertozzi and Claudia Scampoli 2-0 (21-19, 21-19).
