KINSHASA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were killed on Saturday night during an attack by Ugandan rebels, the Allied Democratic Forces, in a peripheral neighborhood in the city of Beni in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a military source said.
The attack took place mainly in the Boikene district where several detonations of heavy weapons were heard all night until the early morning on Sunday, sources said.
According to the army that gave a provisional assessment, 15 other people were taken hostage by the attackers who brought them into the forest and several shops were looted during the attack.
Among the dead was a regular army soldier.
The repeated attack by these rebels is seriously complicating the response to Ebola, which has hit the DRC hard since August.
