SANAA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Saudi-led coalition warplane fighting Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels killed four people travelling in a car in the Yemeni northwestern province of Hajjah on Sunday, residents said.

"The coalition airstrike hit the villagers in Bani Hasan area of Abs district, killing four and wounding another one," said Abdullah Shuayb, a member of Abs local council.

Last week, a coalition airstrike killed 17 passengers fleeing escalating war in Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, and injured 20 others, according to a local hospital official.

Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in March 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after the Houthi rebels forced him into exile.

The Yemeni civil war has killed more than 10,000 people and displaced nearly 3 million others.
