GAZA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 Palestinian demonstrators were wounded on Monday afternoon in clashes with Israeli soldiers in northwest Gaza Strip close to the border with Israel, medics in Gaza said.

Ashraf al Qedra, health ministry spokesman told reporters that 20 Palestinians were wounded by Israeli soldiers' gunfire.

Every Monday, hundreds of Palestinians join a weekly demonstration in northwest Gaza Strip, on the maritime border with Israel, and clash with the soldiers who are stationed there.

The activity is organized every Monday by the high commission of the marches of return and breaking the Israeli blockade. It calls for ending 12 years of Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

Monday's clashes broke out as a high-ranking Egyptian security intelligence delegation finished around six hours of talks with Islamic Hamas movement's leaders in Gaza on brokering a calm deal with Israel.

Hamas leaders insist that the protests on the border and the marches won't stop until Israel lifts the blockade that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed and 22,000 wounded since the marches of return started on March 30, according to the health ministry in Gaza.
