DOHA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A series of cultural activities will be held in Qatar's capital Doha as part of Discover America Festival 2018 which kicked off on Sunday, local media reported.

The seven-day event will feature activities and special promotions in fields such as culture, literature and cinema, Carissa E Gonzalez, public affairs officer at the U.S. embassy in Qatar, told newspaper The Peninsula.

Gonzalez said that the activities would include a live U.S. band at the Mall of Qatar, movies that show the traditional U.S. cinema and food promotions on U.S. products.

"In the first nine months of 2018, we have seen a growth of 85 percent in bilateral trade compared with last year. That's one indicator of how the trade relations are growing," she added.

The two nations enjoy sound military and economic relations, as Qatar currently hosts the Al-Udeid air base, the largest U.S. military facility in the Middle East.

The tiny Gulf country also accommodates more than 658 U.S. companies, of which 117 are fully-owned U.S. companies.

The volume of U.S. investment in Qatar has amounted to 26.3 billion Qatari riyals (7.22 billion U.S. dollars).
