TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned the Danish ambassador to Tehran over the allegations by Denmark that Iran was planning a terror attack on a dissident living in the European state.

Iran expressed strong protest to "rash and politicized" remarks by some officials of the European country over an alleged assassination attempt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by Press TV.

Claims of Iran's involvement in this plot are "spiteful" and are in line with plots and by the enemies who are against the good and growing relations between Iran and Europe at the current sensitive circumstances, Qasemi said.

The Danish envoy, Danny Annan, said in the meeting that he had been recalled by his respective country for consultations and that he would deliver Iran's protest to officials in Copenhagen.

On Tuesday, western media quoted Danish Security Service Chief, Finn Borch Andersen, as saying that Denmark have "suspected an Iranian intelligence service had tried to carry out an attack on an Iranian Arab opposition figure on its soil, and a Norwegian citizen of Iranian background has been arrested."

The attack had been meant to target the leader of the Danish branch of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz (ASMLA), Andersen told a news conference.
