KAMPALA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Rugby Cranes have been drawn to face Portugal in the 2018 Safari Rugby Sevens slated for Nov. 9-11 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Ramzy Olinga, chief executive officer of the Uganda Rugby Union, told Xinhua that the draws made on Wednesday have pitted Uganda against Portugal, Kenya Morans and Kenya's national sevens circuit champions Homeboyz in Group C.

Uganda's second team Emerging Cranes are grouped in Group B alongside World Series side Spain and two sides from Britain Samurai and Red Wailers.

"We are excited about the Safari Sevens as we shall have a chance to field two teams with the senior and emerging team that has young players who need that exposure at the top," head coach Tolbert Onyango told Xinhua at the Kyadondo Club.

The tournament which will take place at RFUEA Grounds on Ngong Road in Nairobi will feature 12 teams.

Kenya's senior side, the defending champions in the World Series, are in Group A with Namibia, Apache and Kenya Cup side Mwamba.

"After failing to retain the Africa Sevens title last month in Tunisia, we are determined to go all out and try to win the Safari Sevens trophy. We know it will not be easy, but we know the style of play of all the teams in the competition," added Uganda's coach Onyango. Enditem
