Czech star Kvitova ruled out of Fed Cup final against US due to illness

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- World number seven Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic has been ruled out of the opening singles of the Fed Cup final against the United States due to illness on Friday.

Kvitova has been troubled by high temerature after competing at the WTA Finals in Singapore and did not train this week.

"We're going to see a lot of young players," she said of the finals which take place in Prague on Saturday and Sunday. "I'm going to be in the arena to support. If anything is needed of me, I'm going to help for sure."

In the first singles match on Saturday, the 19-year-old Sofia Kenin of the Untied States will take on Czech player Barbora Strycova while Alison Riske of the United States will play against Katerina Siniakova in the second singles.

Although Kvitova missed the opening day's match, she still might recover in time for the reverse singles on Sunday.

The Czech Republic won five titles in the past seven years while the United States won last year's trophy. Enditem
