GAZA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari diplomat vowed on Saturday to permanently resolve the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which has been ruled by Islamic Hamas movement since 2007.
Qatar's support is provided to the Palestinian people and not to factions, said Mohamed Ammadi, chairman of the Qatari Committee to reconstruct Gaza, who arrived in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.
"Qatar is seeking to resolve the problems of the Gaza Strip populations permanently and continuously," he said, adding that his country's ties with the Palestinian Authority (PA) and with the Palestinian factions "are excellent."
Qatar had pledged 150 million U.S. dollars to be paid for improving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip within six months. The money is devoted for resolving the shortage of electricity, paying the salaries of employees appointed by Hamas after 2007 and helping poor families.
The senior Qatari diplomat visited the area in eastern Gaza on Friday afternoon close to the border with Israel and requested from Hamas leaders calm on the border.
"We are seeking calm," Ammadi told Khalil al-Hayyah, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza as both were present in eastern Gaza during the weekly anti-Israel rallies.
The PA opposed the Qatari plans of injecting money into the Gaza Strip, believing that the Qatari money will boost Hamas rule in the coastal enclave and delay the efforts of ending 12 years of internal Palestinian split.
"Pumping money into Gaza on monthly basis speeds up the dead economy wheel in the Gaza Strip," said Ammadi, adding "we observe this aid by ourselves and all the sectors of the Palestinian society are getting benefits from it."
