BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed higher Monday, with large gains in the environmental protection industry.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 1.22 percent to close at 2,630.52 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.4 percent higher at 7,832.29 points.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 393.8 billion yuan (about 56.68 billion U.S. dollars), up from 274.29 billion yuan the previous trading day.
The environmental protection industry saw large gains on Monday, with the sub-index up 5.17 percent. Shenwu Environmental Technology and Beijing Originwater Technology both rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 4.83 yuan and 9.99 yuan, respectively.
Bucking the upward trend, the liquor industry saw a 0.64-percent sub-index decline. Kweichow Moutai went down 1.78 percent to finish at 552 yuan, while Sichuan Swellfun dropped 1.67 percent to close at 28.23 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 3.47 percent to close at 1,368.79 points.
