PARIS, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- France's anti-terrorism units have foiled six planned terrorist assaults so far this year, said French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner on Tuesday, warning that the menace of terrorism remained high despite the defeat of the Islamic State (IS).
"Six attacks have been foiled since January ... Almost every day we intervene on the ground to neutralize the risks," Castaner told French news channel BFMTV in an interview.
Last week, a young Syrian man was placed under formal investigation and charged with planning a terrorist attack on French soil.
He pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) and denounced "disbelievers." He also called for attacks on them in several videos that police had found during a raid at his home.
"The threat remains high even if it has changed shape," the minister warned as a national day of commemoration on the Nov. 13, 2015 attacks opened in the country.
Three years ago, a series of coordinate attacks, claimed by the Islamic State (IS), targeted bars, a concert hall and a soccer stadium in the French capital. About 130 people were killed and more than 350 others were wounded.
