WUHAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese version of the Goncourt Prize, the most prestigious award in French literature, will be presented for the first time on Nov. 24 in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, according to a press conference held in the city Tuesday.
The winner of the "Le Choix Goncourt de la Chine" prize will be selected from four French literary works, designated by France's Goncourt Academy, by a jury comprised of celebrated professors in francophone literature from Chinese universities, including Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Wuhan University.
Such prizes have been founded in over 10 countries and regions, including Belgium, Spain, Italy and Switzerland, whereas China is the first in Asia, said Didier Kimmoun, cultural attache of the French consulate general in Wuhan.
"China has been a major importer of French literature in the past few years, and the establishment of Le Choix de la Chine will further enhance the exchange between French and Chinese literary circles," said Olivier Guyonvarch, French consul general in Wuhan.
A variety of sideline activities will also be held, including lectures and film screenings.
The Goncourt Prize is France's oldest prize in literature, and given by Goncourt Academy to the author of "the best and most imaginative prose work of the year."
