Taiwan's RMB deposits fall in October

TAIPEI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The renminbi-denominated deposit balance of Taiwan's financial institutions dropped to 308.5 billion yuan (about 44.5 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of October, according to the island's monetary authority Thursday.

The figure was 7 billion lower than at the end of September, the first drop after four consecutive monthly increases.

Of the total deposit balance, 272.8 billion yuan is under the island's 66 authorized banks, while an additional 35.7 billion yuan is under 58 offshore banking units.

The amount of RMB settlements handled by the Taipei Branch of Bank of China in October was 336 billion yuan.
