GAZA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least three Palestinians were injured on Monday and dozens suffered suffocation after inhaling tear gas in clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers in northern Gaza Strip, medics said.

Israeli soldiers stationed on the border between the northern Gaza Strip and Israel opened fire and wounded three people by gunshots, said Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the Health Ministry in Gaza.

He also said that the three wounded Palestinians were referred to the hospital in Gaza, adding that dozens fainted after they inhaled tear gas fired by the Israeli soldiers and the Palestinian demonstrators in northern Gaza Strip.

Clashes broke out on Monday afternoon between dozens of demonstrators close to the border between northern Gaza Strip and Israel. The clashes erupted during the weekly maritime rallies held every Monday.

The rallies and marches that are organized on Friday and Monday are part of the "Great March of Return" which started on March 30, calling for ending Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.

Al-Qedra said that since the beginning of the marches, the Israeli army has shot dead at least 223 Palestinians and wounded more than 24,000.

Organizers of the event, which comprises several Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, said the marches will go on until the siege is lifted.
