BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Wang Yang met with delegates for the 10th National Chinese Christian Congress in Beijing Friday.

On behalf of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, extended congratulations to the Congress.

He called on religious figures and believers to pool wisdom and strength for national rejuvenation and to uphold the principles of independence and self-management.

At the Congress, which was held from Wednesday to Friday, Xu Xiaohong was elected chairman of the National Committee of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement of the Protestant Churches in China, and Wu Wei was elected president of the China Christian Council.

Wang urged the two groups to support the leadership of the Party, interpret the religious teachings in a way that meets the needs of progress and development in contemporary China and remain in line with fine traditional Chinese culture, guide their believers to resist illegal religious activities and improve internal management.
