RIYADH, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Quartet Economic Committee on Yemen held on Saturday a meeting with UN officials in Saudi capital Riyadh, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The meeting was attended by representatives of four-member countries, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States and Britain, as well as Mark Lowcock, under-secretary-general for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and Lise Grande, the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen.
The meeting reviewed the recent discussions in the UN Security Council, which highlighted growing concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen.
Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al-Jaber said the meeting discussed the humanitarian situation, the mechanism of support in Yemen, and the means to meet the challenges from the Houthi rebels, the living situation and the Yemeni economy.
He pointed out that the attendees agreed to continue holding such meetings to follow up the economic and humanitarian situations in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE announced last month the launch of "Imdaad" initiative with a budget of 500 million U.S. dollars for Yemen.
The Quartet Economic Committee formed late in 2016 aims to assist Yemenis in dealing with the economic crisis and poor living conditions.
