TEHRAN, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Iran exported more than 7.65 million tons of cement and clinker during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22), Eghtesadonline news website reported on Sunday.

The figure registered a 10.2-percent increase compared with the similar period of last year.

Cement accounted for 3.8 million tons of the exports, Abdolreza Sheikhan, the secretary of the Cement Association, was quoted as saying.

More than 50 percent of the clinker and cement exports went to Iraq and Afghanistan over the period, said Sheikhan.

Also, around 247,000 tons of cement were exported to Central Asian countries, mostly to Uzbekistan, via railroad through Sarakhs border crossing in Iran's Khorasan Razavi Province during the seven months, Mohammad Hadi Ziyaeimehr, director general of Khorasan Razavi Railroad Organization, said.

Ziyaeimehr noted that Sarakhs border crossing accounts for 90 percent of Iran's cement exports through railroads.
