MADRID, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Valencia enjoyed a positive night in the Mestalla Stadium on Wednesday night when they recovered pride and gained prestige with a well-deserved 2-1 win at home to Manchester United, but fans received some bad news on Thursday with the confirmation that the club’s Portuguese international forward Goncalo Guedes will be out of action for around 2 months.

Guedes missed the win through injury and the official Valencia reports that he will undergo an operation in order to cure a hernia, which has been troubling him for around a month.

“The player Goncalo Guedes will have an operation on Friday December 14th to solve the physical problems which are derived from the sportsman’s hernia which has suffered for the past few weeks,” explains the official Valencia website.

The club explain that the operation will be carried out in Porto and “coordinated” with the Valencia medical staff.

“The recovery time will be between a month and a half and two months, depending on the players progress,” concludes the statement.

That means Guedes will miss up to 8 Liga Santander matches and also the games in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey knockout tournament and the quarter-finals if Valencia get through the next round.

He should be fit to play in the knockout stages of the Europa League, which begins in mid-February and which Valencia qualified for after finishing third in their Champions League group.
