BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Wang Yang on Friday met with a delegation of the Friends of Hong Kong Association.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, credited the association's full and faithful implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems," and its contributions to maintaining Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.

He called on the association to play an active role in reform and opening up in the new era, unite all walks of life in Hong Kong, and focus on developing the economy and improving people's wellbeing, in order to build Hong Kong into a frontier for China's two-way opening up.

Wang also asked the association to pay close attention to the growth of the younger generation of Hong Kong, who will take over the torch of the cause of "one country, two systems," and further serve as a platform to build consensus and enhance the people's sense of identity.

The association was founded in 1989 with the aim to promote exchanges between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and support the lawful governance of the region's government.
