GAZA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 Palestinian demonstrators were shot and wounded on Monday during clashes with Israeli soldiers in northern Gaza Strip close to the border with Israel, medics said.

Gaza Health Ministry Spokesman, Ashraf al Qedra, told reporters that 14 Palestinian demonstrators were shot and wounded by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in northern Gaza Strip, close to the sea border with Israel.

He added that one of the injured was a 14-year-old boy who was in critical condition, adding that dozens suffered from suffocation after inhaling tear gas fired by the Israeli soldiers.

Israeli naval forces opened fire at fishermen boats joining the weekly maritime demonstrations off the northern coast of the Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel, according to the Gaza-based local radio station al-Shab.

The Palestinian commission of Marches of Return and Defying the Israeli Siege organizes weekly protests and sends dozens of fishing boats to northern Gaza Strip for demonstrations.

The aim of the protests is to push Israel to end around 12 years of blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
