Lab blast kills 3 in Beijing Jiaotong University

BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- An explosion in a lab at Beijing Jiaotong University on Wednesday morning has left three students dead, according to the municipal fire department.

The blast occurred at 9:34 a.m. when students from the municipal environmental engineering department of the university were conducting an experiment on sewage treatment.

Eight fire squadrons and 30 fire engines were sent to the scene. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
