Continuity of Cuba's revolution well guaranteed, says Raul Castro

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Raul Castro, leader of Cuba's ruling Communist Party (PCC), said on Tuesday that the transition of generation in Cuba goes very well and the continuity of the country's socialist revolution is guaranteed.

The first secretary of general of the PCC made the remarks in a speech on the 60th anniversary of Cuba's revolution in the southeastern city of Santiago de Cuba where his brother, Fidel Castro, proclaimed victory six decades ago.

Castro praised the administration of President Miguel Diaz-Canel, the first without the Castro family name and not belonging to the founding generation since 1976.

The Cuban revolution has not got "older" and it remains "young", the former president said during the ceremony in a cemetery where both Fidel Castro and independence hero Jose Marti are buried.

He said the PCC "backs up all actions, decisions and working methods of President Diaz-Canel."

Diaz-Canel, 58, took office in April, 2018. In his first speech as president, he pledged to carry forward the path of revolution and promote social and economic reforms in the the Caribbean nation. Enditem
