PHILADELPHIA, the United States -- The Chinese community in the United States should continue to play their unique role as "positive energy" in cementing China-U.S. ties, Huang Ping, Chinese consul general in New York, said Sunday.
Overseas Chinese in America have been participants in and contributors to the establishment of China-U.S. ties, Huang Ping said, adding it is important that the Chinese community continues to help bridge bilateral ties.

THE HAGUE -- "First you dial the 9 for an outside line, and then 011 for an international line," Dutch astronaut Andre Kuipers told Dutch public broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting. "I made a mistake (missing the 0), and the next day I received an email message: Did you call 911?"
Alhough Kuipers hung up immediately when he realized his error, the call triggered an alert at NASA, which checked the room where the call was issued but found no one there.

DAKAR -- China-Africa friendship is unbreakable and the one-China principle has been consolidated and strengthened in Africa, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters at the end of his four-nation Africa trip.
Wang's trip to Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Gambia and Senegal on Jan. 2-6 continued a 29-year tradition of making Africa the first international visit of the year by the Chinese foreign minister.
In the face of some deliberate attempts to discredit China-Africa cooperation, African governments and people have stood up to dispel the rumors and firmly adhered to a friendly policy towards China, which manifested the unbreakable friendship between the two sides, Wang said.
