BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's Huracan have won the race to sign Paraguay international striker Lucas Barrios, the Buenos Aires club said on Monday.

Barrios joined the Superliga Argentina side as a free agent after parting ways with Chile's Colo-Colo last month.

"Lucas Barrios has undergone a medical and will sign a contract with [us] in the next few hours," Huracan said on Twitter, without providing further details.

Barrios has endured a frustrating 12 months since departing Brazilian giants Gremio following their 2017 Copa Libertadores triumph.

A brief spell at Argentinos Juniors was followed by a stint with Colo-Colo, with whom he managed just three league goals in 14 appearances.

Last week he told Brazilian press that he was considering offers from several South American clubs, including Gremio.

Huracan are currently fourth in the 26-team Superliga Argentina standings with around a third of the season remaining.
