ABUJA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian security forces have nabbed a suspected member of the terror group Boko Haram in an operation aimed at routing remaining terrorists in Nigeria's northeast region, the army said on Friday.

In a statement, the army said the suspect identified as Babagana Abubakar, and also known as Alagarno, was among wanted terrorists in the country.

He was captured at Bulabulim Ngarnam community on the outskirts of Maiduguri, capital of the northern state of Borno on Thursday.

The terrorist was in his hideout in the community when security forces, including the army, police and civilian volunteers, on operation nabbed him.

"He has since been moved out of the area for further interrogation," said the statement.

The suspect was caught in possession of equipment including two military ballistic helmets, a pair of military desert boot, military backpack, camouflage design shorts, camouflage T-shirts, and a military jungle hat.

Boko Haram has been trying since 2009 to establish an Islamic state in northeastern Nigeria.

The group has so far killed about 20,000 people and forcing the displacement of millions of others in the most populous African country.
