Flower festival in northern Myanmar city attracts 600,000 visitors

YANGON, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's flower festival, held at the National Kandawgyi Garden (NKG) of the northern city of Pyin Oo Lwin, has attracted 600,000 visitors as of Tuesday, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported.

Visitors in the 13th Pyin Oo Lwin flower festival increased by 20 percent from the previous year, an administrator with the NKG was quoted as saying.

The month-long festival, which began on Dec. 15, 2018, exhibited over 200,000 flower species.

The event was jointly organized by the NKG, Garden and Friends Company from Thailand and Japan's Fukusuke Company.

Pyin Oo Lwin, formerly known as Maymyo, is a scenic hill town in Mandalay region and located in the Shan Highland, some 67 km east of Mandalay, and at an altitude of 1,070 meters.

Pyin Oo Lwin is also known as Myanmar's flower city.
