5 Syrian workers killed in factory fire in Turkey's capital

ANKARA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least five workers were killed, and eight others injured in a fire at a factory in Turkey's capital Ankara on Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at a four-storey furniture factory in Altindag district in Ankara, Governor Vasip Sahin said in a statement.

Turkish Deputy Interior Minister Mehmet Ersoy told reporters that the five Syrian workers tried in vain to escape by going upstairs as the fire erupted on the lower levels of the factory.

The fire has been brought under control by the fire brigade.
