ABU DHABI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Thursday banned import of live birds from Russia following an outbreak of H5N2 virus, the UAE official news agency WAM reported.

The World Organization of Animal Health said the outbreak is located in Rotovoskaya Oblast, Russia.

The ministry said that it implemented protective measures as it banned the import of all species of live birds, eggs and meat products.

Majid Sultan Al sashimi, director of Animal Development with the Health Department of the ministry, said that the ministry prevents risks of bird flu virus and impacts on the country's poultry health and safety.
