BERLIN, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Hannover have appointed Thomas Doll as their new head coach, the struggling Bundesliga outfit confirmed in an official statement on Sunday.
Hours after the dismissal of former head coach Andre Breitenreiter, Hannover have found a successor and signed Thomas Doll, who has signed a deal until June 2020. His contract will be also valid for the second division.
One day after the 5-1 defeat at hands of front runners Borussia Dortmund, Hannover have made a decision after "analyzing the last weeks and months, with the result to release Andre Breitenreiter."
"Thomas Doll has done a successful job in all his previous stations, proving time after time that he can achieve predetermined goals such as staying up and the participation in the international business," Hannover's sporting director Horst Heldt said.
The 52-year-old coach knows the Bundesliga business as he coached Hamburg's first team from 2004 until 2007 before joining Borussia Dortmund for one year.
Doll stood lately at the sidelines of Hungarian outfit Frenecvarosi TC where he won the domestic double in 2015 and the Hungarian championship twice (2016, 2017).
"Doll is a meticulous man and we firmly believe that all his experience can give the team exactly what they need to make the turnaround," Heldt added.
Doll will lead the first training session on Monday.
Hannover sit on the 17th place of the standings which is a direct relegation spot. The club reaped their last win in November and has been without a victory ever since. Under Breitenreiter, Hannover suffered 12 defeats from 19 Bundesliga games.
