BEIRUT, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The official website of Beirut's airport was hacked on Monday by a Syrian group, leading to its shutdown, a local news agency reported.

The hack is meant to convey a message to the Lebanese army and Hezbollah for their attacks on Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Lebanon Debate quoted the Syrian Revolution Troops as saying in a statement.

"These crimes cannot be forgiven and all those who attack Syrian refugees will pay a heavy price for it," the group warned.

The hack came days after Ahmad El Zoabi, a 14-year-old Syrian refugee, was found killed in a building in Beirut.

According to Lebanon Debate, Zoabi, who worked as a shoe cleaner in the Lebanese capital, was wanted by Beirut's municipality.

The municipality issued a statement denying its responsibility for Zoabi's death, saying the teenager ran away and the police could not get hold of him.

The airport's website has returned to normal.

Lebanon is hosting 976,000 registered Syrian refugees according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, while the government estimates the true number of Syrian refugees in the country at 1.5 million.

The flow of Syrian refugees to Lebanon has weighed heavily on the country's infrastructure and job market, which caused conflict between Lebanese citizens and Syrian refugees.
