MADRID, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Real Betis' Benito Villamarin Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville (southern Spain) was on Monday named as the venue for this season's Copa del Rey final by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The final is scheduled to be played on May 25 and Betis have the chance of being in that final as they are in the quarterfinals of the tournament and last week saw them draw the away leg of their tie with Espanyol 1-1 in Barcelona.

Betis' neighbors and bitterest rivals, Sevilla could also make the final as they defend a 2-0 first leg quarterfinal advantage away to FC Barcelona, who have won the last four editions of the Spanish knockout tournament.

The RFEF decided in favor of the recently re-modeled Benito Villamarin, which has the capacity to hold 60,720 fans, ahead of Valencia's Mestalla Stadium.

The venue for the final of the Copa del Rey has been a constant source of controversy in recent years, given that Spain has no 'national stadium' such as Wembley Stadium in England.

That means the venue has to be decided on a yearly basis, with fans sometimes not knowing where the game will be played and unable to make the relevant travel plans until a matter of weeks beforehand.
