DAMASCUS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- An explosion targeted on Tuesday a building taken as a command center by the al-Qaida-linked militants in Syria's Idlib, inflicting casualties, a war monitor reported.

The bombing, believed to be carried out by a female suicide bomber, targeted a building where the so-called Salvage Government of the rebels' Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is located.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there was a gunfire between the women and the guards of the building before the explosion.

The explosion, the second to hit Idlib within 12 days, was the latest in a string of bombings taking place in rebel-held areas in northern Syria, it said.

Earlier in the day, an explosion device went off in the northern city of Raqqa near the national hospital of the city, wounding five people.

It's worth noting that Raqqa is controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) while Idlib is controlled by the HTS, which is the umbrella group of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.
