ISTANBUL, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- A United Nations judicial expert investigating the murder of Saudi journalist met with Istanbul's chief prosecutor on Tuesday over the case.

Agnes Callamard, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, and accompanying experts discussed with Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Irfan Fidan the details of the ongoing probe into Jamal Khashoggi's death.

According to the Istanbul prosecutor, Khashoggi was strangled to death after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, last year, and his body was then dismembered and destroyed.

Earlier in the day, Callamard went to the Saudi consulate to make an investigation outside of the premises, local media reported, noting that her entry inside the building was denied.

Speaking to the reporters on the scene, Callamard said she had requested entrance to the consulate building from the Saudi government and meetings with Saudi authorities both in Turkey and in the kingdom.

"The request to the Saudi consulate came quite late, so we need to give them a bit more time to process our request," Callamard was quoted by the private Demiroren news agency as saying.

"We are respectfully calling on the authorities to give us access," the report said.

Meanwhile, the directorate of communications under the Turkish presidency said in a tweet that Turkey still does not know where Khashoggi's body is, who ordered the hit and who the "local collaborator" was.

Callamard is expected to present her report about the case to the UN Human Right Council at the end of May, according to press reports.
