LONDON, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 1.29 percent, or 86.83 points, to close at 6,833.93 points.
British American Tobacco, a tobacco group, soared 5.68 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. DS Smith and Rio Tinto increased by 4.86 percent and 3.37 percent, respectively.
Hargreaves Lansdown, a financial service company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 6.26 percent. TUI AG, a Germany-based integrated tourism group, dropped 2.09 percent. Easyjet, a low-cost British airline, fell 1.20 percent.
