WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- New Orleans Pelicans' star Anthony Davis was fined 50,000 dollars by the NBA on Tuesday after his agent told press the 25-year-old won't sign an extension with New Orleans.
The NBA said the fine was imposed for Davis' violation of a collective-bargaining rule prohibiting players or their representatives from making public trade demands.
The five-time All-Star is said to ask for a trade to a championship-contending team, although an extension could get him a five-year, 240 million dollars contract. But with the February 7 trade deadline just around the corner, it is more likely that the trade happens after this season.
Anthony Davis was drafted by the Pelicans with the first overall pick in 2012 and was contracted to the end of the 2019-20 season. He averages 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game this season before being sidelined for a sprained finger earlier this month.
The Pelicans now sit 12th in the Western Conference with a 23-29 record.
