Myanmar-Thailand border trade reaches over 1 bln USD in FY 2018-19

YANGON, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Border trade between Myanmar and neighboring Thailand reached over 1 billion U.S. dollars as of Jan. 25 in the fiscal year 2018-2019 which started in October, according to Myanmar's Commerce Ministry on Saturday.

The country's export to Thailand amounted to 724.4 million U.S. dollars while its import shared 302 million U.S. dollars in nearly four months.

The country mainly conducts border trade with Thailand through seven border checkpoints, Tachilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Hteekhee, Mawtaung and Maese gates.

From Oct. 1, 2018 to Jan. 25 this year, Hteekhee border gate topped with most bilateral border trade value of 579.8 million U.S. dollars.

The country's agricultural and fishery products are exported to Thailand while cosmetics, food products and machinery and raw industrial goods such as cement and fertilizers are imported.
