BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Real estate conglomerate China Evergrande Group posted a drop in sales in January as the country's property market stabilized alongside government curbs.

The company's contract sales reached 43.17 billion yuan (about 6.4 billion U.S. dollars) last month, a 33-percent decline from 64.36 billion yuan in the same period last year, compared with a 10.1-percent sales increase for the whole 2018, according to a company statement.

The contracted sales area was 3.88 million square meters, down from 6.24 million in January 2018.

The company sold 551.34 billion yuan of properties last year, and aims to increase sales to 600 billion this year.

China's real estate sector has expanded at a slower pace in recent years due to government controls. Property sales in value gained 12.2 percent in 2018, down 1.5 percentage points from the previous year.
