Tokyo stocks open higher on U.S. shares' overnight advance

TOKYO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as upbeat U.S. corporate results and technology shares' advance buoyed sentiment ahead of the keenly awaited State of the Union address by U.S. President Donald Trump.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 74.50 points, or 0.36 percent, from Tuesday to 20,918.95.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 1.14 points, or 0.07 percent, higher at 1,584.02.

Marine transportation, precision instrument, and iron and steel-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
