MADRID, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed on Wednesday morning when the light aircraft they were travelling in crashed close to the small town of Quijorna, to the east of the Spanish capital city of Madrid.

Emergency services confirm that the victims were a woman and a man who were both around 50-years old and that they died as the result of multiple traumas received as a result of the crash.

"We were alerted to the accident close to Quijora this morning, but when medical services were taken to the accident site by helicopter, they could do nothing more than certify the death of the two occupants," Antonio Lara, a chief officer at the ambulance service SAMUR, informed on twitter.

The accident happened on a day with light winds and clear skies. The Civil Guard are now investigating whether an ultra-light aircraft, which landed without problems close to the accident scene, was involved in provoking the crash and whether the two craft could have collided in mid-air.
