KIGALI, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) on Friday launched activities in the run-up to the 25th commemoration of 1994's Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi due in April.

The 60-day activities starting from Feb. 7 will focus on unity, justice, accountability, and fight against genocide ideology, Jean-Damascene Bizimana, executive secretary of the CNLG, told a news briefing in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda.

Key activities to take place across the country ahead of this year's commemoration include youth visits to former soldiers who were injured during the war and are living with disabilities, and to elderly genocide widows who lost all their children, said Bizimana.

Other activities include visits to genocide memorial sites as well as an international conference on genocide to be held in Kigali, he said.

The commemoration of the genocide offers an opportunity to remember the victims of the genocide, to preserve evidence, reflect on the lessons learned from history and the progress made by the country over the past 25 years, Bizimana said.

The annual national mourning week this year will be April 7-13, during which there will be no entertainment.

The 1994 genocide against Tutsi left over 1 million people dead, mainly Tutsi, within a period of three months.
