Bangladesh receives 23 mln USD orders at largest annual fair

DHAKA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh exporters have received spot orders worth around 2 billion taka (23.8 million U.S. dollars) from international buyers at the the 24th edition of the country's largest Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) that ended Saturday.

It was nearly 400 million taka (4.77 million U.S. dollars) higher compared with that of the previous year, Bangladeshi Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said at the concluding ceremony of the annual trade show.

Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid on Jan. 9 inaugurated the month-long fair.

Like previous years, the fair was held at the west side of Bangabandhu International Conference Center, also known as Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, in Dhaka.

As a yearly program of the Bangladeshi government, DITF was aimed at showcasing local products to foreign buyers.

A total of 500 stalls, pavilions, and mini pavilions were set up this year in the 24th version of the fair which was thronged by thousands of people every day.

Hundreds of organizations of Bangladesh and dozens of other countries including China, India, Malaysia and Pakistan took part in the fair.

The exhibition, which covers a floor area of some 1.25 million square feet, showcased a wide range of local and foreign products, including machinery, equipment and materials for agriculture and gardening, carpet, chemical and allied products, cosmetics, dairy products and electronic items, an official from the Exhibition Promotion Bureau said.
