TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran will keep military advisers in Iraq and Syria as long as those countries demand, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, said here on Sunday.

Amid terrorist threats, Iran has offered advisory assistance to Syria and Iraq and then attended those countries at their demand, Baqeri was quoted as saying by official IRNA news agency.

"We will keep our advisory presence in these countries as long as they want and will leave there whenever they do not want," he said.

Despite the U.S. military which stay in the regional countries contrary to their wills, Iran's presence is with their consent, he added.

Iran has emerged as the main regional ally to the Syrian and Iraqi governments when terrorism ravaged these two countries several years ago.
