JAKARTA, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia plans to hold an international boxing championship in central part of the country later this year, organizers said here on Tuesday.

The event is scheduled to be held in Flobamora sport stadium of Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara province from July 5-7, said Chris John, member of the event's organizing committee.

John, a former professional boxer from Indonesia and a world champion who competed from 1998 to 2013, said that the forthcoming championship is looking out for talents with potential to compete on world stage.

Several Indonesian world title winning boxers came from East Nusa Tenggara province, but there have been few new faces to arise after John's retirement, he said.

"Sorry to say, after my and Daud Jordan's era, a new world champion from Indonesia has not emerged," said John after reporting the plan to the Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Iman Nahrawi.

Nahrawi welcomed the plan and gave his full support to the upcoming event.
