Chouzhou beat Guangsha in CBA Zhejiang derby for fourth straight win

ZHUJI, East China, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Zhejiang Chouzhou beat Zhejiang Guangsha Lions 113-102 in a Zhejiang province derby here Tuesday evening to extend their winning streak in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league to four.

Marcus Denmon had 41 points, seven assists and five rebounds to lead Chouzhou to improve to a 20-19 win-loss record with Brandon Paul adding 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Guangsha pulled within 103-97 with one minute and 52 seconds remaining, only to find Denmon nail a pair of free throws with 1:09 left to seal the victory for Chouzhou.

"I am pleased that we played an exciting match for the fans. It was a close game and I think we played good defense and counter attack in the fourth quarter," said Chouzhou head coach Liu Weiwei.

Three Chinese players also finished in double scoring digits as Wu Qian contributed 18 points and Zhu Xuhang and Cheng Shuaipeng had 13 points apiece.

"We fought really hard in the fourth quarter and our efforts paid off," said Wu.

Playing without their leading scorer Courtney Fortson, who was suspended after receiving his fourth unsportsmanlike foul of the regular season in Guangsha's 131-114 loss to Jilin Northeast Tigers on Sunday, the Lions suffered their second loss in three days.

"Of course it was hard for us to play without Courtney, but I think we tried our best and fought till the end," said Guangsha head coach Li Chunjiang.

Ioannis Bourousis had 19 points and 17 rebounds for Guangsha, but he also committed nine errors. Sun Minghui had 19 points and 13 assists for Guangsha with Hu Jinqiu and Li Jinglong adding 18 and 15 points respectively.
