KIEV, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 3.4 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, the country's Economic Development and Trade Ministry said Friday on Facebook.

The agriculture, construction and trade sectors, which saw high domestic demand, were the biggest contributors to the GDP increase, the ministry said.

In the same time, the pace of the economic growth was overshadowed by the tensions with Russia, which affected the work of Ukrainian industrial enterprises and sea ports, it said.

The fourth quarter figure showed an acceleration from a 2.8-percent increase in the previous quarter, but was lower than a 3.8-percent growth in the second quarter. In the first quarter of 2018, Ukraine's GDP rose by 3.1 percent.

The Economic Development and Trade Ministry estimated that the country's GDP rose by 3.2 percent in 2018. The final full-year figure will be revealed later by the State Statistics Service.

The Ukrainian economy sunk into recession in the first quarter of 2014 and suffered a decline of 16.5 percent in 2014-2015.

Ukraine's GDP rose by 2.5 percent in 2017, after growing 2.3 percent in 2016.
