LONDON, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- It's been confirmed that Philippe Guerdat, head coach of the 2016 Olympic showjumping champions France, will become Brazil's coach, equestrian world governing body FEI said on Thursday.

The 68-year-old Swiss, who led France to gold in Rio 2016 and is the father of Olympic champion Steve Guerdat, also enjoyed success during his spell as the coach of Ukraine, Spain and Belgium.

His first big event with the Brazilian team will be the Nations Cup jumping competition in La Baule, France in May.

"We are very confident with the work and experience of Phillipe Guerdat, who was coach of the current Olympic champion team," Pedro Paulo Lacerda, director of the Brazilian Equestrian Confederation, said of Guerdat's appointment.

Guerdat will also face a big challenge in the 2019 Pan American Games from July 26-August 11, which will also serve as the qualifying event for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Enditem
