LAGOS, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's Center for Crisis Communications (CCC) on Friday raised alarm on the potential flash points in the country as the country goes to the polls Saturday for the presidential and national assembly elections.

In its mid-February collation and dissemination of data on crisis and crisis situation across the country, the center said it has identified flash points in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Scribe of the Center Yusuf Anas said the potential flash points were identified after reviewing recent incidents and violent activities in some of the states.

"We strongly recommend that adequate security arrangements should be made to ensure that the elections are not disrupted in some of the states we have identified," he added.

The CCC identifies as flash points states of Kano, Kaduna, Kwara, Kogi, Adamawa and Taraba in the north, and Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Anambra and Imo in the south.

"We appeal to politicians, community leaders to advise their subjects against involvement in any activity capable of inciting violence that could have negative effects on the electoral processes," he added.

The center collects, collates, processes, harmonizes and disseminates information on any crisis or potential crisis situation in the country.

The country's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that about 84 million Nigerians have registered to vote in the general elections, representing about 42 percent of the country's population.

Just hours before the opening of polls scheduled on Feb. 16, INEC announced a one-week delay in polling, citing logistical issues.

The decision triggered widespread anger among Nigerians and the two main political parties blamed each other for the delay.
