DAMASCUS, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 24 civilians were killed Sunday when a land mine exploded in central Syria, state news agency SANA reported.

The land mine is from the leftovers of the Islamic State (IS) militants, which ripped through workers' bus in the Salamiyeh area, according to the report.

Earlier in February, seven civilians were killed when a land mine exploded in the town of Rasm al-Ahmar in the eastern countryside of Salamiyeh.

Bombs left by rebels ahead of their defeat or withdrawal exploded multiple times in some areas of Syria.

The Syrian government is exerting efforts to cooperate with international organizations to remove the mines, which caused human losses in different areas in the country.
